Canfield swimmers win league championship
Neighbors | Submitted.The Canfield Swim Club's swim team competed in the Youngstown Swim League Championship meet July 31. .The Canfield team was the overall winner of the meet with many swimmers breaking records and winning their respective events.
Thanks to a meet record relay team and a cluster of first-place finishes, the Canfield Swim Club won the Youngstown Swim League Championship July 31.
The meet was hosted by Applewood Swim Club.
Gavin Trebilcock, Ryan O’Malley, Drew Wellham and Garrett Trebilcock broke the 15 to 18-year-old boys free relay meet record with a time of 1:30.67.
Elle Dawson, Grace Mangapora, Marissa Landers and Chloe Kalina made up the medley relay team that won first place in the 8 and under girls bracket. Others winners in the same bracket were Marissa Landers in the butterfly and Mickey Velasquez, Santino Marucci, Luke Pallante and Ben Weiss in the free relay for the boys 8 and under bracket.
Max Dawson, Paxton Karlock, Cullen Brady and Luke Pallante won the medley relay for the 9 to 10-year-old boys bracket. Maggie Beistel, Mara Kohut, Maura Kennedy and Sydney Stewart took first in the medley relay for the 11 to 12-year-old girls bracket. In that same age bracket, Jared Rothbauer, Matthew Bogen, Alec Gaetano and Adam Dunbar took first in the medley relay.
For the boys 13 to 14-year-old bracket, Adam Weiss, Drew Bennett, Connor Brady and Daniel Bogen won the medley relay. First-place winners in the freestyle event were Maggie Beistel, 11 to 12-year-old bracket; Daniel Bogen, 13 to 14-year-old; and Gavin Trebilcock, 15 to 18-year-old. Winners in the backstroke event were Jared Rothbauer for the 11 to 12-year-old bracket and Garrett Trebilcock, for the 15 to 18-year-olds. Winners in the breaststroke event were Matthew Bogen, 11 to 12-year-old bracket and Gavin Trebilcock, 15 to 18-year-old bracket.
Jillian Baker won the 9 to 10-year-old girls butterfly, Connor Brady took the title in the 13 to 14-year-old competition and Garrett Trebilcock won 15 to 18-year-old butterfly. Sarah Heaven, Mallory Allen, Madison Stewart and Olivia Williamson made up the free relay team that won for the 13 to 14-year-old bracket. Kathryn Zetts, Leslie Davis, Hilary Allen and Emily King won the free relay for the 15 to 18-year-old girls.
