2-year-old dies in hot car; sister in hospital

MEDINA, Ohio

Authorities say a 2-year-old girl found in a hot car has died, and the 3-year-old sister who was with her is hospitalized.

The Medina County Sheriff’s office says the girls were reported missing by their grandfather Thursday evening. Chief Deputy Kenneth Baca says that during a search of the York Township neighborhood, a resident noticed a door not completely closed on her car. The children were inside.

The younger girl was pronounced dead at a hospital. Baca says her sister was listed in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Baca says it was apparent intense heat inside the car took a toll on the children.
