1985: Mahoning Common Pleas Judge Peter C. Economus rules that two Campbell councilmen, Robert Wilson and Robert Yankle, can serve as councilmen while holding civil service jobs because Campbell elections are nonpartisan.
Judge Nathaniel Jones of the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, says he was treated courteously by South African police who arrested him and detained him for four hours for illegally entering a restricted black township.
Howland Township Trustee David Hines is named by the Democratic Central Committee to serve as Trumbull County treasurer and will serve until a special election is held for the unexpired term of Treasurer Harold Williams, who died.
1970: Venice Homes Inc. files suit seeking to force Youngstown Water Commissioner David A. O’Neil to provide water service for the College Park development in Austintown. The suit claims Youngstown’s contract with Mahoning County requires it to provide service.
Martin Lipton, 72, of Palm Springs, Calif., and the Hotel Ohio, president of the Tri-County Distributing Co., dies in St. Elizabeth Hospital after becoming ill at the Elks club.
