Humility of Mary Health Partners cancer survivors are offered lunch, games, music, crafts, prizes and giveaways at one of two picnics. The Mahoning County picnic is from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at Boardman Park Community Center, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman. The Trumbull County picnic is 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at St. Demetrios Pavilion, 3223 Atlantic St., NE Warren. Each survivor may bring one guest and only attend one picnic as space is limited. Benefit party

The UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation offers “Attitudes and Latitudes Luau,” a Jimmy Buffett-themed party, to benefit patients of the UPMC Cancer Center at UPMC Horizon, which is under construction. The party is Aug. 27, pool side at Oak Tree Country Club in Shenango Township. Doors open at 6 p.m. The evening will feature tropical-inspired cuisine, a rubber ducky 50/50 raffle drawing, and entertainment by The Buffettman, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. The Visiting Nurse Association, 518 E. Indianola Ave., is offering free health-care services from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, including a medical equipment presentation by Boardman Medical Supply. There also will be free health screenings, including blood pressure, weight, blood sugar, general physical and mental health, and medication reviews. Informational items and refreshments will be available. No appointment is necessary.

Instructor training

BOARDMAN

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering instructor training Tuesday and Thursday evenings in August at its satellite office in Boardman, 8381 Market St., starting Tuesday and finishing Aug. 31. All five sessions are required for successful completion. Class will be from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The fee is $195. For more information or to register call 330-392-2551.

Animal first aid

WARREN

American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering Dog and Cat First Aid at the main office, 661 Mahoning Ave. NW on Aug. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. The course was designed by a veterinarian in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States and the American Red Cross.

Free program

YOUNGSTOWN

The free Stepping Out Program is aimed at improving health and lowering risks for diabetics. Activities include line dancing, aerobics, salsa, yogalates and walk groups, weight management, healthy cooking demonstrations, healthy eating workshops, diabetes prevention classes, physical activity instruction, health screenings, activity log to track increased physical activity, and a gift card for completing all components of program. Support for the program is provided through a grant from The Ohio Commission on Minority Health with support from Humility of Mary Health Partners, Associated Neighborhood Centers, OCCHA and the United Methodist Community Center.
