Seeking cosmetologists

RAVENNA

The American Cancer Society is seeking licensed cosmetologists in the area to help with the Look Good Feel Better program. A free training will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Robinson Memorial Hospital, 6847 North Chestnut St. “One of the best and most useful services we offer to cancer patients is this free program, which teaches women beauty tips and techniques on how to improve her appearance while she is receiving treatment. However, the need for cosmetologists in all counties is essential since this program is available to all women in this region,” said Al Stabilito, Northeast Ohio Public Relations Director of the American Cancer Society. All interested cosmetologists are encouraged to attend the training. But those who attend must be licensed and willing to donate about four or five hours per year to help women undergoing treatment. Health at Home

The Health at Home program, from 11 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., teaches self-care and how to make decisions about health using “Health at Home,” a book of instructions for more than 200 health problems. Annual radiothon

The second annual “Miracles and Promises” Radiothon to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is Sept. 23-25. The radiothon will be broadcast live on Mix 98.9 and 570 WKBN from the main lobby of Building D on the hospital’s Beeghly Campus in Boardman. Recruitment is now under way for “Miracle Maker” Change Bandits to assist with pre-radiothon fundraising activities. A kit containing a fundraising guide and materials necessary to conduct a Change Bandit campaign is delivered to all participants. All dollars raised are presented, and Change Bandits are recognized during the Radiothon. Grant given

The employees of the Boardman Branch of Trustmark chose the Sojourner House Domestic Violence Shelter to receive a $5,000 grant from the Trustmark Foundation. Nominations are submitted from employees each year to determine how the local funds will be distributed. “The mission and work of Sojourner House truly meet the governing principles of the Trustmark Foundation. Our local employees make the decision where funds are distributed, and Sojourner House was at the top of everyone’s list.” said Polly Johnson, assistant vice president of operations at Trustmark’s Boardman location.

Chiselded classes

Chiselded, a fitness class using barbells, steps and rubberized plate weights and choreographed with music, is being offered at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 9:55 a.m. and 5:30 to 6:25 p.m. Session dates are: Aug. 31-Sept. 28; Oct. 5-28; Nov. 2-25; and Dec. 7-30. Community Day

Eye Care Associates’ Caring for our Community Day raised $2,000 and collected 227 pounds of food to help Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley feed hungry people in our community. For every $1 received, the Food Bank distributes $15 worth of food, meaning the Eye Care gift enabled the Food Bank to distribute $30,000 worth of food in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
