NY governor’s aide surrenders on assault charge

NEW YORK (AP) — An aide to New York Gov. David Paterson has surrendered on an assault charge in the 2009 domestic violence case that touched off an evidence-tampering investigation in Albany.

The Bronx district attorney’s office says David Johnson surrendered around 9:30 a.m. Thursday on misdemeanor charges.

The case stems from a confrontation last Halloween. His then-girlfriend, Sherr-una Booker, called police to say Johnson had choked her and thrown her against a mirror.

The case was initially handled in Family Court and dropped without prejudice because Booker did not appear for a hearing.
