Erie Zoo unveils tiger cub ‘Yuri’ born on May 11
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — The first tiger cub born at the Erie Zoo in more than 20 years is now on display.
Yuri was born May 11 to Anna, a 13-year-old Amur tiger.
Yuri has grown to 28 pounds and began making his first appearances at the zoo last week.
Zookeeper Danielle Petrone says there were concerns the cub wouldn’t survive because handlers couldn’t get him to eat meat. They’ve discovered he eats hamburger, however, and he now eats nearly 30 ounces a day.
Yuri will eventually be transferred to another zoo, but not for more than a year.
