Boardman resident wins Gaelic language award

Boardman resident Stanley Gerchak recently took first place in the Great Lakes Gaelic Mod at the Lorain County Fairgrounds.

Gerchak won the award for superior Gaelic language and was presented with the Catherine Mackin Memorial Quaich. A Quaich is a Scottish Gaelic drinking vessel made of pewter with two handles.

Gerchak is a Polish language teacher, specializing in beginning and intermediate classes. He conducts classes at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Youngstown. In addition to Polish and Scottish Gaelic, he is fluent in Croatian and has studied Spanish, Italian and Russian over the years.

Gerchak is also a member of the Polish Arts Club and served for many years as its treasurer.
