In a rehab start, Indians pitcher Mitch Talbot tossed three innings, allowing two singles and a run as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers wrapped up a six-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds on Monday afternoon at Eastwood Field.
Talbot was tagged for a third inning. After Austin Rauch led off with a walk, Blair Dunlap reached with a bunt single.
After Michael Rooney’s sacrifice bunt advanced the runners, Rauch scored on a groundout.
Reliever Casey Gaynor took over for Talbot in the fourth inning and pitched five shutout innings. James Reichenbach retired the side in the ninth inning to earn the save.
The Scrappers took the lead with a three-run sixth inning that began with a miscue. After Dan DeGeorge singled to open the frame, he was picked off first base by IronBirds starter Justin Moore.
Carlos Moncrief’s double was followed by singles by Nicholas Bartolone, Giovanny Urshela and Chase Burnette. Jesus Aguilar drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly.
In the eighth inning, Aguilar hit another sacrifice fly to score Urshela who had doubled and advanced on an error.
The Scrappers (20-31) will be in New York City today to play the Staten Island Yankees this evening. They’ll play day games there on Wednesday and Thursday.
