Mahoning Valley auto dealers report gains in new-car sales

YOUNGSTOWN — Valley auto dealers continued to post sales gains in July, as summer promotions and improved access to credit brought customers to local showrooms.

Year-over-year new-vehicle sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties rose for the fifth consecutive month in July.

Local dealers sold 1,901 new vehicles last month, compared to 1,550 sold in the same month in July 2009.

Dealers also saw monthly sales gains, with July sales topping the 1,815 new units sold in June.
