Attorney joins Columbiana school board

Columbiana attorney Mark Hutson was named Tuesday to fill a vacancy on the city school board.

He and other candidates were interviewed by three of the board of education members.

Board members Kelly Witmer, Randy Guy and Jay Hertel voted to appoint Hutson. Board member Alex Heintzelman was absent.

Hudson was named to replace Robert Rubicky, who resigned because he is moving from the district for business reasons.

Superintendent Don Mook praised the other candidates who had applied but added that board members “thought he [Hutson] brought something to the board.”

“It was a difficult decision,” added Mook.

Rubicky’s term expires at the end of 2011.

When asked if he would seek election, Hutson said, “Time will tell.”

Hutson immediately went into an executive session to discuss possible action against a school worker.
