9/11 museum going up in NYC offers raw experience
NEW YORK (AP) — The Sept. 11 museum taking shape at ground zero will take visitors to the core of the destroyed twin towers via a sloping ramp that gradually reveals the vast scale of the site.
Members of the news media got a tour Tuesday of the National September 11 Memorial Museum, which is slated to open in 2012.
The museum commemorating the 2001 terrorist attack that killed nearly 3,000 people is still a construction site.
A staircase on which hundreds of people fled the burning towers remains among the original remnants and is part of the museum.
A private area off limits to the public but open to families of victims will house unidentified remains.
