McKelvey Lake drowning victim identified

The man who drowned in McKelvey Lake while fishing is Augustus Ray Williams, 47, of Bott Street in Youngstown, police said.

Williams was fishing with a friend at the lake near Oak Street Extension when he fell in shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday.

His friend and people who live nearby searched the lake, but couldn’t find Williams, police said. His friend called 911. The Youngstown Fire Department and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team pulled his body out of the lake at 9:01 p.m. Sunday.

Williams fell in to the lake while trying to retrieve his fishing pole.
