An Ohio judge says only one family member of each of the 11 women whose remains were found in a Cleveland home will be allowed to sit in the courtroom during Anthony Sowell’s trial.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose says his courtroom has 28 seats— not enough to accommodate all the victims’ family members and members of the public.
Ambrose says he’s studied several high-profile trials in Northeast Ohio and wants to avoid anything that would cause a mistrial. He expects Sowell’s trial to last six to eight weeks.
Sowell, 50, has pleaded not guilty to killing the women and dumping their remains around his home.
