PINEHURST, N.C.

Turns out, calling 10-year-old Brian Terlesky one of the best young golfers in the country sells him a little bit short.

The Boardman native shot a 7-under 209 to place first at this weekend’s U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at the 5,003-yard, par-72 Little River course.

He entered Saturday’s final round with a two-shot lead over two-time world champion Kyle Cox of Carrollton, Texas.

Cox took a two-stroke lead after the front nine but Terlesky shot a 31 on the back nine to win by two strokes. Harrison Corbin of Inman, S.C. placed third with a 220.

Terlesky, who is 23-2 in tournaments this summer, beat out 134 other kids from 14 different countries and 34 states.

He shot 72 in the first round, 69 in the second and 68 in the third.

His two losses this summer consisted of second- and third-place finishes in events in Alabama and Mississippi, respectively.

Terlesky avenged his second place finish to Cox at the 2006 world championships when the two boys were 6 years old.

Terlesky is the son of Brian and Christine Terlesky. Christine’s father is Boardman High girls basketball coach Ron Moschella.

Terlesky recently made his fourth career hole-in-one, acing the 115-yard No. 5 hole with a 5-wood at Kennsington Golf Club.
