Quakertown Trolley heads to Salem

SALEM

The Quakertown Trolley will return for two tours of Salem’s Underground Railroad homes, part of International Day festivities.

Tour times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday. Jeanne Martinelli, docent at the Salem Historical Society’s Freedom Hall, will dress as a Salem Quaker and take passengers back in time to 1856.

Through the telling of stories and the use of slides, passengers will gain an understanding of the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad, and the abolitionist movement in Salem before the Civil War. Each tour lasts about 80 minutes, and the cost is $10 per person.

Pre-sale reservations for the trolley tour are encouraged because seating is limited. Call Mary Ellen Mayo at 330-337-3035.
