CAMPBELL

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday on the body of a 20-year-old Campbell man shot about 10:15 p.m. Friday on Tremble Avenue near 13th Street, said Mahoning County coroner’s investigator Rick Jamrozik.

The victim, Anthony Harrison of Campbell, was shot once in the back, said Campbell Police Detective Sgt. John Rusnak.

Wounded in the shooting was a 17-year-old Campbell juvenile, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot in a leg, officials said.

The original call to police at 10:23 p.m. indicated that there was a man down in the street who had been hit by a car, Rusnak said.

However, when police arrived, they found it was a shooting and that Harrison was not breathing, he said. Several shots had been fired, he said.

Police were delayed and hampered in their investigation of the crime scene when a large number of the victim’s family and friends gathered in the street, threatened police and refused to leave, Rusnak said.

Campbell police called for help, and some 18 to 20 officers from several neighboring jurisdictions, including the Mahoning County Homicide Task Force, arrived to help disperse the crowd.

Police also were aided by the Campbell Fire Department, which set up lights to help in the search for suspects and evidence, Rusnak said.

Police learned that two suspects were seen running behind houses in the area, and in tracing their route, recovered two semiautomatic handguns believed to have been used in the shootings, as well as some items of clothing.

Police recovered seven bullet casings. All the evidence was sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for examination, Rusnak said.

He said police had not discovered a motive for the shootings and had made no arrests in the case as of Saturday night.
