Boardman graduate
Army Col. Richard T. Curry retired Aug. 1 after 28 years of service. He is the son of James and Barbara Curry of Boardman, graduated in 1974 from Boardman High School and attended Youngstown State University.
His overseas deployments include Korea, Kuwait and two tours in Iraq, deploying the first tour as the battalion commander for the 1-107th Cavalry and the second tour as the commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Curry’s major awards and decorations include the Combat Action Badge, the Legion of Merit Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, GWOT Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Iraq), The Order of Saint George (Armor), Order of Saint Maurice (Infantry) and Order of Saint Barbara (Artillery) Medals.
Curry and his wife, Christine, plan to live in the Columbus area.

USS New Orleans
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class James A. Lising, son of Lauren J. Macek and Ken E. Francis-Macek of Boardman, along with 1,000 fellow sailors and Marines on USS New Orleans (LPD-18), based in San Diego, Calif., recently embarked on a three-month deployment in support of Southern Partnership Station (SPS). Lising, a 2001 graduate of Boardman High School, joined the Navy in February 2006.
Army captain
Army Capt. Daniel Mikus, stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., recently returned from Iraq, where he was promoted to his present rank. He is part of B/1-23 Infantry Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
He graduated from Ursuline High School in 2003 and West Point Military Academy in 2007. He is the son of Michael and Silvia Stefan of Youngstown and Daniel Mikus of Mineral Ridge.

Aviation maintenance
Marine Corps Pfc. Joseph E. Miller, son of Laura L. and Kenneth C. Miller of Hermitage, Pa., recently completed the Marine Aviation Maintenance Administration Course with Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One, Marine Aviation Support Training Support Group 21, Meridian, Miss. Miller is a 2009 graduate of Hickory High School of Hermitage.

Transportation helper
Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Zachariah A. Dunkin has arrived for duty at Youngstown-Warren Air Reserve Station, Vienna. Dunkin, an air transportation helper assigned to the 76th Aerial Port Squadron, is the son of Patricia A. Dunkin of Warren. His wife, Katie Anne, is the daughter of Mary Hardin and Richard Benish, both of Austintown. He is a 2004 graduate of Lordstown High School.
