Bluebell lovers from all over flock to Poland Woods in the spring, but on Monday it was faithful visitors that walked the trails.
Marilyn Kobulnicky is no stranger to Poland Woods. She was a member of the forest board for four years until she stepped down in April and walks her dog, Jack, there several times a day.
“Everyone knows him,” said Kobulnicky. She said that she wished Poland Woods got more recognition. “People come during bluebell season and then forget it’s here.”
Ashlee Weaver and friend Myranda D’Apolito don’t forget about the woods. The 15-year-old girls visit often to wade in Yellow Creek looking for crawfish.
“I haven’t been here for three weeks,” said Mark Barnhart, as he took a breather from jogging on Thacher Trail. He said he usually tries to come twice a week.
In August, visitors to Poland Woods can enjoy looking for a variety of plant life including tick trefoil, steeplebush, knot weed, skull cap and blue lobelia.
