Cervelli’s botched grab of Mike Lowell’s routine pop led to three unearned runs that put the Red Sox ahead for good in the second inning. David Ortiz hit his 24th home run of the season and rookie Ryan Kalish hit the first of his big league career.

Adam Jones singled in the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning, and the Baltimore Orioles extended their unbeaten run under new manager Buck Showalter to four. Nick Markakis had a season-high four hits for the Orioles, who earned their second straight walkoff victory.

DETROIT
Jered Weaver allowed three hits over seven innings to best Justin Verlander. The Angels’ Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer and tossed a bag of baseballs onto the field after being ejected. Brennan Boesch hit a home run for Detroit, which is 5-18 since the All-Star Break.

TORONTO
Lyle Overbay hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning, helping Brett Cecil and Toronto beat slumping Tampa Bay. Cecil (9-5) struck out nine in seven innings to earn his first win since July 8 against Minnesota.

MIAMI
Adam Wainwright pitched a two-hitter for his 16th victory. Albert Pujols homered as St. Louis beat reeling Florida. Wainwright (16-6) struck out seven and walked three en route to his fifth complete game and second shutout this season.

CHICAGO
Bronson Arroyo allowed five hits over seven innings. Wainwright (16-6) struck out seven and walked three in his fifth complete game and second shutout this season. The Reds (62-48) got a two-run homer from Ryan Hanigan in the second inning and an RBI single from Brandon Phillips in the seventh.
Phillies 7, Mets 5
PHILADELPHIA
Carlos Ruiz singled in the go-ahead run during a six-run eighth inning in Philadelphia’s fifth straight win. The two-time NL champion Phillies, depleted by injuries to key players, moved within 1 1/2 games of NL East-leading Atlanta with their 13th win in 15 games. Both starters pitched well, though neither stuck around for a decision. Chad Durbin (3-1) tossed a scoreless inning for the win. Bobby Parnell (0-1) didn’t retire any of the four batters he faced in the eighth.
Brad Lidge got the final out for his 13th save in 17 chances.
