The eight attendees of Camp Rock, offered through the Kid University summer day camp series at Old North Church, had the opportunity to rock July 12-15.
The campers, from grades one through four, learned a dance routine, worked on percussion skills and learned about music and dance and how it relates to the Bible.
To heighten their newly-learned skills, they also played Guitar Hero and Band Hero on Wii. As the campers were listening to different genres of music, they also had lyric discussions.
The children made crafts during the camp, including tambourines made out of paper plates and beans. They decorated their own tambourines with markers, crayons, ribbons, feathers and more, letting their creativity lead the way.
“This has been a great week. The children are having lots of fun and are working hard. It is fun to watch them,” said Bethany Bissell, an intern with the Old North Church youth ministries and an instructor at the camp.
Church volunteers Turinetta Gehring and Kimberly Walker were also instructors of the camp, with Walker filling the role of dance instructor.
On the last day of camp, the class took the stage and put on a show for their parents, showing off what they had learned, and also performed for the Sunday school classes at the church the next Sunday.
