Families in Boardman were treated to a special night of free fun activities and a movie during Family Night at Boardman Park July 24.

Children of all ages enjoyed face and hand painting by members of the Bridge of Hope Church, two bounce-arounds provided by Bounce-A-Round and balloon animals and hats made by Jocko the Clown.

Families also went on wagon rides around the park and could stay to watch the movie “Monsters vs. Aliens” on a big outdoor screen at dusk.

As a special treat for the evening, Madcap Puppet Theatre, of Cincinnati, Ohio, performed Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show. The company, which travels all over the country and has been in existence for 28 years, uses Jim Henson-style puppets in their shows and tries to incorporate Ohio history and characters into its shows.

Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show told the story of the life of Annie Oakley, and included such characters as Lillian Smith, Oakley’s rival; Johnny Appleseed; Paul Bunyon and Buffalo Bill Cody.

Oakley showed off her marksman skills for the audience and a few lucky audience members were called up on stage to help with the production.
