YOUNGSTOWN

Plenty of political entities and school districts will ask voters to dig deeper into their pockets in support of new and replacement-tax levies on the November ballot.

In Mahoning County, there are six new levies and four replacement levies among the 30 tax proposals on the ballot.

The most costly new levy [referred to as an additional levy on the ballot] is a 1.8-mill, 5-year request to raise $7,427,231 a year for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

The library proposal is among four countywide tax levies for voters to consider.

The other three are renewals for the county’s Board of Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Board and for the Children Services Agency.

Those wanting to put tax levies on the November ballot had to submit the requests by Wednesday to their county board of elections.

Among the three Boardman Township levies is a 3.85-mill, 5-year additional-tax proposal to raise $3,810,317 for police services. The other two are renewals.

The other new tax proposals are:

A 6.8-mill levy for a continuous period of time to raise $3,793,502 annually or the Canfield school district.

A 3.5-mill, 5-year levy to raise $277,279 a year for the city of Campbell.

A 3.9-mill, 5-year levy to raise $1,485,900 annually for Poland schools.

A 1.5-mill, 5-year levy to raise $107,550 each year for the fire department for Jackson Township.

Of the four tax- replacement requests, two are in the village of New Middletown and one each in Poland Township and Jackson Township.

Among the tax requests in Trumbull County, four are new, and four are replacement levies.

The new levies are for Brookfield Township, the McKinley Memorial Library in Niles, the Girard Library and the Mathews school district.

Of the four replacement levies, two are in Bazetta Township and one each for the city of Cortland and the county’s children services department.

In Columbiana County, there are five new tax proposals and four replacement levies on the November ballot.

The new levies include a 0.5 percent income tax for the city of Salem. Other new levies are in East Liverpool, Leetonia, Wayne Township and the East Palestine school district.

There also are four replacement levies in Columbiana County: Butler, Franklin and West townships and Wellsville.

Questions, issues and options for the general election had to be filed with county boards of elections by Wednesday. It was also the deadline for filing to run for the nonpartisan Mahoning County Court judicial seat of Judge David D’Apolito.
