Scrappers notebook || More from Eastwood Field

Youth movement: About 50 area children were guests at Eastwood Field prior to Wednesday’s game between the Valley Scrappers and Tri-City as part of a youth baseball clinic sponsored. The children, along with Scrappers manager Travis Fryman and several players, took the field to practice running, throwing, fielding and hitting drills. Strength coach Jake Sankal taught the children several exercises they could take with them to the sandlots. Several of the Scrappers taught the group fielding drills, and how to properly run the bases. Sessions took place at home plate, on the base paths, the outfield and even in the bullpen, where the kids learned how to grip the ball properly. Fryman took time to show the children how to properly stand in the batters’ box and swing for the fences.

Thanks for stopping by: Richard Martinez, who joined the Scrappers last month, was promoted to the Akron Aeros, the Double-A affiliate of the Indians. The catcher joined the Scrappers in July to help take some of the pressure off the club’s other catchers, who had been dealing with minor injuries. Moises Montero and Diego Seastrunk are now the only two catchers on the Scrappers’ active roster.
