Ohio man to be tried third time in wife's tub drowning
CINCINNATI (AP) — A prosecutor will put an Ohio man on trial a third time in his wife’s 2008 bathtub drowning after a judge declined to grant an acquittal.
A spokesman says the prosecutor’s office in southwest Ohio’s Warren County will ask the judge to set a new trial date for 29-year-old Ryan Widmer.
The spokesman commented today a short time after Common Pleas Judge Neal Bronson denied Widmer’s request that he be acquitted in the death of Sarah Widmer.
A jury in 2009 found Widmer guilty of killing his wife at their home north of Cincinnati. That verdict was overturned when the judge found juror misconduct.
Widmer’s second trial ended in a mistrial June 1 after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.
