YSU leads Horizon with 15 academic all-stars

Youngstown State had a league-best 15 student-athletes named to the Horizon League’s spring sports academic all-league teams.

The baseball and women’s track and field team led the YSU contingent with five selections each, while two members from both the men’s golf and track and field squads and one from the women’s golf team rounded out the team.

The YSU athletes named were Tom Clayton, Jacke Healey, Casey Holland, Eric Marzec and Aaron Swenson, from the baseball team; Alisha Anthony, Lauren Blase, Amanda Carpin, Jen Grayson and Lyndsie Hall, from women’s track & field; Tim Morrow and Spencer Sulzener, from men’s golf; Adam Kagarise and Aaron Merrill, from men’s track and field, and Samantha Formeck, from women’s golf.

Butler and Loyola each had 13 selections, while Detroit had 11.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
