A man accused of punching another man so hard he had to go to the hospital is charged with assault. Anthony Hlebovy of Chambers Street will be arraigned Friday in municipal court.
A police report says Charles Schell, 56, a neighbor of Hlebovy’s, was found lying on the ground around 2 a.m. Wednesday in front of a home in the neighborhood.
Schell was knocked unconscious and had a severe cut on his face, the report said. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Witnesses told police Hlebovy was asked to leave the porch at the home, and he abruptly punched Schell. Witnesses said he hit him two more times in the face after he fell, the police report indicates.
He ran home and locked himself in his house, but came out later to talk to police, the report says. He said he thought the fight was mutual. He was arrested and posted bond.
Firefighters grant
BRISTOLVILLE
U.S. Rep Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, will present a $2.235 million check to the Bristol Fire Department this morning.
The check is from a station construction grant received through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.
The congressman, township officials, the Trumbull County commissioners and engineer, Bristol firefighters and project managers will take part in a 10 a.m. ceremony at the fire department, 2100 Greenville Road.
Alex’s Lemonade Stands here Friday
Walgreen’s stores in Boardman and Youngstown are among 54 Walgreen’s stores throughout northwestern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland joining the battle against childhood cancer by hosting Alex’s Lemonade Stands from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday .
The creation of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was inspired by the story of Alexandra “Alex” Scott, a 4-year-old cancer patient who wanted to have a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. In the 10 years since then, the foundation bearing her name has raised more than $30 million and funded more than 125 research projects nationally.
Semis blown over
DELAWARE, Ohio
Police say three semitrailers were blown over by high winds on a U.S. highway in central Ohio.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Steven Herron of the Delaware post says severe thunderstorms blew through the area, knocking over the commercial trucks on northbound U.S. Route 23 in northern Delaware County around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
He says minor injuries were reported, and no one was hospitalized.
