“The Casey Malone Show,” which will showcase locally owned restaurants and other aspects of food, will premiere this weekend on WFMJ Channel 21 and WBCB (CW network). The half-hour show will occupy the noon slot on Saturdays on WFMJ, and repeat at 7 a.m. Sundays on WBCB.
In addition to local restaurants, it will feature food purveyors, manufacturers, ethnic groups and local cooks who are passionate about food.
“The social culture in our area always involves food and that culture needs to be celebrated and shared,” said Malone in a press release.
John Grdic, general manager of WFMJ, said “Viewers love Casey, and her show will feature popular foods, restaurants and ethnic traditions from across our Valley. It makes perfect sense to have a show that celebrates all things local on our Valley’s only locally owned station.”
Malone was born and raised on Youngstown’s West Side.
After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in journalism, she moved to Portland, Ore., where she discovered a food-centric culture with an emphasis on inspired American cuisine.
Her enthusiasm for ingredients, preparation and dining continued when she moved to San Antonio, Texas.
There, she managed restaurants and cafes in the San Antonio International Airport for Sky Chefs. She renamed the company Concession Air and designed its logo, which is still in use. Malone immersed herself in the Tex-Mex culture and learned to make Mexican specialties from scratch.
She returned to Youngstown and began a 20-year career in radio with Y-103, WNCD and WKBN-AM.
Malone is married to Ken Turocy.
