4-year-old boy shot dead in his home

Newton Falls

A Tuesday evening shooting left a 4-year-old Newton Falls boy dead in his home on Trumbull Court.

The son of Michael and Amanda Stewart was shot directly in the chest with a revolver about 5 p.m. and found dead on the scene, according to a police news release.

The investigation is ongoing, and police cannot confirm whether the boy shot himself.

The death appears to be accidental, but the Newton Falls Police Department, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, the Trumbull County Sheriff’s office and the Trumbull County Coroner’s office are continuing to investigate, the press release states.

The Squires Warren Jr. Military Band will have a free master class for brass- instrument band students in grades five through eight from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14.

Students will be instructed by licensed music educators in a classroom setting.

‘Political Protest’

Universal Caf 2010 at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., will present “Political Protest from Kent State to the Tea Party” on Monday.

Steve Oravecz will be the moderator. The panel will include Staughton Lynd and a representative from the tea-party movement.

Park board to meet

The Mill Creek MetroParks’ Board of Commissioners will meet in a special session today.

The board will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the MetroParks Farm in Canfield, state Route 46, and immediately adjourn into executive session to discuss the hiring of an executive director.

They will take no action at this time.

The regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Ford Nature Center on Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.
