Police: Ohio man drunk with kids in stroller

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Police say a man who appeared drunk while pushing his two young sons in a stroller has been charged with child endangering and intoxication.

Twenty-four-year-old Steven Melendez planned to tell a judge today at his court appearance he does not deserve jail.

An officer in Mansfield who made the arrest July 26 reported that Melendez smelled of alcohol and couldn’t stand without leaning on the stroller that held Melendez’ 1- and 2-year-old sons.

A family member was called to get the children. Police say when Melendez was taken to the county jail for booking, he passed out and was taken for a hospital for treatment.

Melendez told a Cleveland TV station he made a mistake and would argue in court that he needs treatment.
