The Austintown School District began accepting students through open enrollment in the 2009-10 school year.

The state funds $5,700 per student each year that goes with that student no matter where he or she attends school.

Austintown lost 250 students to open enrollment in the 2008-09 school year.

That cost the district $1.5 million in state funding.

Austintown gained 200 students through open enrollment in the 2009-10 school year.

That brought in $1.15 million in state funding.

An additional 116 students are expected to join the Austintown School District in the 2010-11 school year, which will bring in another $660,000.
