Chelsea Clinton turns to Wang for 2 gowns

NEW YORK

Chelsea Clinton needed two gowns by Vera Wang for her elaborate wedding to Marc Mezvinksy — one for the ceremony and one for the party.

The more formal dress worn by Clinton on Saturday at an exclusive estate in Rhinebeck, N.Y., had a strapless bodice, laser-cut organza ball skirt and a glittery embellished belt. For the reception, she changed into a Grecian-style gown with a narrow, black grosgrain belt.

Wang also dressed the bridesmaids. They wore strapless bias-cut gowns made of lavender chiffon with plum-colored bows.

The designer was a guest at the event and said it was a “privilege” to dress Clinton. She said the bride “radiated joy, youth and happiness.”

As mother of the bride, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton tapped Oscar de la Renta — designer of one of her inaugural gowns when her husband was president — to make her raspberry-colored embroidered gown.

The groom wore a custom wool-mohair mix tuxedo by Burberry.

Madonna in Paris to direct her new movie

PARIS

The Material Girl is illuminating the City of Light, where she’s shooting her latest film, “W.E.”

Dressed all in black and heavily accessorized in dark shades, a hat and a patterned scarf, Madonna directed Saturday’s shoot in Paris’ tony 6th district.

The 51-year-old singer made her directorial debut in 2008 with “Filth and Wisdom,” about a Ukrainian cross-dressing punk-rocker.

Madonna is not the only U.S. star to film in the French capital this summer.

Last week, Woody Allen was shooting his “Midnight in Paris” on location near the Pantheon and in a park behind Notre Dame cathedral. The film, starring Owen Wilson, also includes a performance by France’s first lady, model-turned-singer Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

Gabor to go home from hospital Friday

LOS ANGELES

Doctors plan to let Zsa Zsa Gabor return home Friday, about three weeks after the 93-year-old actress was hospitalized with a broken hip.

Gabor’s publicist, John Blanchette, said Saturday that she would spend the rest of the week receiving physical therapy.

Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, told Blanchette that the actress was joking with nurses but that she appeared depressed. He hoped the return home would restore her spirit.

Blanchette says Gabor broke her hip July 17 as she was lifting herself from bed into a wheel chair that tipped over. The Hungarian-born actress’ condition began to deteriorate after hip-replacement surgery days later.

Blanchette says von Anhalt bought the actress a hospital bed and was arranging for home care.
