CSEA offers child-support evaders ‘Deals for Wheels’
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
August is Child Support Awareness Month, and child-support enforcement agencies across the state are conducting activities that emphasize the theme “Throughout Life ... Support Matters.”
The Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services’ Child Support Enforcement Agency is planning a driver’s-license-reinstatement program as a way for the county to participate in support-awareness month. It will run from today through Aug. 31.
The CSEA standard procedure when it has suspended a driver’s license for nonpayment of child support is to require either a payment totaling three times the ordered amount (one current month and two full payments on the arrearage amount) or verified employment so that a wage withholding can immediately be implemented.
“Deals for Your Wheels” is a special one-month offer that allows reinstatement for a payment in the amount of one monthly obligation plus $1 on the arrearage.
The program allows those who owe support payments an opportunity to have their license reinstated for substantially less than normal. It also will help the children involved by ensuring receipt of at least the current month’s support payment.
If you are an absent parent with a suspended license and wish to participate in the offer, go to Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and ask to speak to one of the CSEA- license-suspension case managers. You also can call 330-740-2073 to speak to a case manager.
Make the one-month payment plus $1, and CSEA will give you the required reinstatement form.
That form, along with the required $25 reinstatement fee, can then be presented to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Regional Reinstatement Center to have your license reinstated.
