Martins’ 50th marked at party hosted by sisters

The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Martin of Beaver Township was celebrated during a party at 4 p.m. June 26 at Angels for Animals Andrews Hall. Sisters of the honored couple were hostesses for the celebration.

Featured at the dinner was a cake baked by his sister Dorothy Swauger and decorated with a picture of the original wedding; music by the Stephan Foster Barbershop Chorus, of which Mr. Martin is a member; and a song by Walter Kyser, a soloist at their wedding.

Attending were the Martins’ son and daughter, Dan Martin of Columbus and Rachel Martin Spiro, and her husband, Dan, of Cape Coral, Fla. The children presented the couple with a trip to Mackinac Island and Frankenmuth, Mich. Also present were their grandchildren, Chelsea and C.J. Spiro.

The former Leah Culp and Mr. Martin were married May 21, 1960, at Good Hope Lutheran Church, North Lima. They are members of Old North Church in Canfield.

Mrs. Martin is the fifth member among her siblings to be married 50 years or more.

Mrs. Martin graduated from Youngstown Hospital Association and for several Years worked at the offices of various doctors.

Mr. Martin served with the U.S. Navy, worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and retired after 30 years as a service technician for Sears. He has been a firefighter, EMT and inspector with Beaver Township Fire Department for 30 years.
