Several local churches answered the “call for songs of loudest praise” this afternoon.

Members of the Grace Church of the Nazarene in Youngstown met at 3 p.m. today for a special service of praise, centered around the singing of “How Great Thou Art.”

“This is a grassroots movement of praise and honor to God. We honor athletes and dignitaries, and we thought it would be great to set aside Aug. 1 to sing especially about how great God is,” said the Rev. Robert Donato.

This is the third year the Webb Road church has had the event, and two other congregations in Liberty and Mineral Ridge also participated.

Chimes from the church called parishoners to gather and sing “How Great Thou Art” outside.

Then the dozen participants moved inside the sanctuary for a 30-minute service of prayer, testimony, scripture and more praise songs, including “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” which features the line “call for songs of loudest praise.”
