Was this dog drowned after a break-in?

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Village police and agents from Animal Charity are investigating the death of a dog found in a swimming pool.

Police Chief Vince D’Egidio said police are trying to determine if the dog’s death was accidental or intentional. A Kerrywood Drive man came to police Friday to report the death of his American Eskimo dog. About noon a neighbor heard a dog in severe distress, the chief said, looked out the window but didn’t see anything. The dog’s owner told police that when the family left the house about 9 a.m. Friday, the 3 1/2-year-old dog was inside. But when they returned, the gate on the patio had been pushed open and they found the dog in the pool.
