Tennis team nets a win
The Canfield varsity tennis team beat Poland 4-1 Tuesday night. In singles play, Ryan Sankovic defeated Ben Brocker 6-1 and 6-3
Tony El-Hayek beat Ken Duncan in his singles match 2-6, 7-6 and 7-5
Mark Dalvin easily defeated David Shoffstall 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles play Mike Devito and Zach Fortunato won 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4
The team of Mark Pagano and Tom Yankush won 6-3 and 6-2.

Cardinal Radio is broadcasting Canfield High School’s Monday and Wednesday games against Poland at 7 p.m. and a May 10 game against Walsh Jesuit at 4:30 p.m. on the Internet at www.cardinalradio.com.
Monday’s game will be broadcast from Cene Park, Wednesday’s game from Eastwood Field and May 10 from Kent State University.
Canfield softball team wins at tournament
The Canfield girls softball team beat Independence 1-0 at the Rock ‘N Fire tourney in Akron Saturday.
Canfield scored the only run in the fifth inning and had three hits and one error. Independence had zero runs, three hits and two errors.
For Canfield, Carlee Hart (9-4) pitched five innings for the win and Sarah Vrabel pitched two. Laura Beck caught five and Sydney Opladen caught two innings. Leading hitters were Brina Sturgeon and Sarah Vrabel with doubles.
Canfield girls split tournament games
In Game one of a doubleheader, the Canfield Cardinals girls softball team defeated Akron Hoban 3-1, Apr. 23.
Canfield had three runs, five hits and two errors. Hoban had one run, four hits and four errors.
Leading hitters with doubles were Melanie West, Carlee Hart and Sarah Vrabel. Rebecca Brown had an RBI single.
In Game two, Canfield lost 2-1 to Brunswick. Canfield had one run, four hits and zero errors; but that wasn’t enough to top Brunswick and its two runs, six hits and zero errors.
A triple by Brina Sturgeon to lead off the seventh was followed by an RBI double by Sarah Vrabel drove in Canfield’s only run.
Boys tennis wins four of five matches
The boys varsity tennis team won four out its five matches against Lakeview Apr. 21.
In singles play, Mark Dalvin won 6-2 and 6-1 over Kyle Ames. Mark Stanislaw earned a 7-6 and 6-1 victory over Alex Mellot. Ryan Yankush defeated Eric Bugos 6-7, 6-2 and 6-1.
In doubles play, Mark Pagano and Tom Yankush won their match 6-2 and 7-5 . Canfield’s Steve Dalvin and Joe Crum fell 7-5 and 6-4 in the other doubles match.
Cardinal softball team shut out Fitch
The Canfield girls softball team shut down Fitch 10-0, Apr. 21.
Carlee Hart (7-3) pitched five innings and Sarah Vrabel two. They combined to allow just four Fitch hits.
Canfield’s Melanie West had a three-RBI double, Abby Baker had an RBI-triple and Kayley Keller went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
St. Ignatius nets win over Canfield tennis
The Canfield high school boys tennis team traveled to Cleveland Apr. 22 and came up short against St. Ignatius, falling 3-2.
In singles play, Tony El-Hayek beat Sean Frebes 6-3, 6-3. Ryan Sankovic lost 6-1, 6-1 to James Oliver and Mark Dalvin faltered 6-3, 6-1 against Tom Mascia. In doubles, Joe Crum and Steve Dalvin defeated Make Nichols and Amar Shah 7-6, 6-7 and 6-2. Canfield’s Mark Pagano and Tom Yankush lost in three sets against Chjafd Burton and Mark Gregory, 2-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
Tennis team adds another win The Canfield boys tennis team defeated Mooney 3-2 in Canfield ,Apr. 20. In singles matches, Luka Spahija played three sets to win the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over Mooney’s Ryan Sankovic.
Tony El-Hayek played three sets to earn a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Matt Higham. Mark Dalvin defeated Michael Rotar, 6-2 and 6-4.
The doubles team of Mark Pelini and Tyler Ferris won their match in two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Mark Pagano and Tom Yankush defeated Vince Cicchi and Jacob Kempe in their doubles match 6-3 and 6-2.
Champion Flashes shut out Canfield Cardinals
Canfield lost to Champion 1-0 Apr. 20.
Despite Canfield pitcher Carlee Hart’s 16 strikeouts, Champion was able to put a run across in the ninth on singles by Haley McAllister and Lindsey Swipas with the help of a Canfield error in the outfield.
Canfield had seven hits and three errors. Champion had one run, three hits and zero errors.
