Ohio school dance crackdown prompts alternate prom

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) — Students say scores of people have bought tickets for an alternate prom they organized after an Ohio school said it wouldn’t allow suggestive dancing at the real prom.

Both events are scheduled for Saturday in Newark, 30 miles east of Columbus. The principal at Licking Valley High School has vowed to stop any sexy “grinding” at the official senior prom, so restrictions have been placed on the music.

Two students say they felt the administration was taking too much control over the prom, so they went to work on setting up their own, alternate dance with a rainforest theme.

They describe it as a safe, fun option which will have 15 parent chaperones and an officer on hand.

More than 100 tickets had been sold through Thursday.
