Memorial race to fund study on amyloidosis

A “Run Against Amyloidosis” 5K Race May 15 at Mill Creek Park is scheduled in memory of Nancy Prezioso Babich, a wife and mother of three, who lost her battle with the disease March 18, 2009, the day before her 43rd birthday.

The race will start at 9 a.m. from the Mill Creek Park Wick Recreation Area, near the Par 3 Golf Course, and will follow the Mill Creek Classic 5K Route.

Early registration by May 8 is $15. On race day registration begins at 8 a.m. and is $17. The first 200 registered runners will receive a T-shirt.

There will be awards to the first three male and female overall; top three male and female masters (age 40 and over); and first three male and female finishers in various age groups. Medals will be presented to award recipients. There also will be a Chinese auction with winners to be announced after the race.

Proceeds from the race will be donated to the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine Human Immunology and Cancer Program Study for a cure to amyloidosis.
