Child-rape indictment

WARREN

A Trumbull County grand jury has indicted a Brookfield man on two counts of rape involving an 11-year-old girl.

James C. Roth, 26, of Hubbard-Thomas Road, will be arraigned on the charges at 11 a.m. May 10 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court before Judge Peter Kontos.

Accident victim ID’d

YOUNGSTOWN

Police have identified the man killed in a motorcycle accident as 23-year-old Larry McDonald of Elberen Street.

According to police, McDonald was riding a Honda dirt bike northbound on Belle Vista Avenue near Concord Avenue between 3:30 and 3:40 a.m. Thursday when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a curb. A passing motorist saw the motorcycle and called police.

A Mahoning County coroner’s report said McDonald, who was not wearing a helmet, died of a blunt-force head injury.

Liquor legislation

COLUMBUS

State Rep. Tom Letson, D-64th, of Warren, and state Sen. Capri Cafaro, D-32nd, of Hubbard, have sponsored legislation they believe will spur economic development by allowing Warren to qualify for an additional 10 liquor permits for restaurants and bars.

Current Ohio law allows a municipality with a population of 100,000 or more to create a community entertainment district and qualify for up to 15 additional liquor permits, Cafaro said in a press release.

State law also allows a municipality of less than 100,000 residents in a county with a population of less than 125,000 to create a revitalization district, thus qualifying for up to five additional liquor permits.

“Unfortunately, Warren and other cities across Ohio fall in the gap between these two laws,” she said.

The bills would allow a municipality of less than 100,000 in a county of more than 125,000 to create a local entertainment district and qualify for up to 10 additional liquor permits, she said.

Man pleads innocent

WARREN

Sid-Michael Taylor, 21, of Castle Rock Drive, Howland, pleaded innocent to burglary Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court after a Heather Lane Northwest woman said she and her daughters awoke at 4 a.m. Wednesday to find Taylor in their house.

The two girls came into the mother’s bedroom saying someone had broken in. The mother screamed at the intruder to leave.

The mother got a look at the man, noticed a cut on his face and smelled alcohol coming from him, she told Warren police. The man walked out the front door, and police found him a short time later.

No charges against 3

LISBON

Columbiana County Commissioner Penny Traina said Thursday that no charges will be brought against three people who authorities said were trespassing at the closed and crumbling county home.

Traina said the doors were marked with yellow warning tape, but three people were found on the property March 15. Three preservationists, Stephanie Halverstadt, Charles Senanefes and William Catlett, all of Lisbon, were stopped by Allen Haueter, the chief deputy for the sheriff’s office.
