Neighbors | Shaiyla Hakeem.Second-graders at North Elementary enjoy time in their school garden on April 22 for Earth Day. The A-Team from Kohls visited the school to help the students plant tomatoes, peppers and flowers for their mothers.

With the help of Kohl’s A-Team members, North Elementary students spent time on Earth Day planting flowers and adding vegetables to their garden.

The A-Team visited North April 22 to help the students with their gardening skills. The group consists of Kohls employees that donate their time for nonprofit activities and projects that focus on enriching the lives of children. In doing so, the organization they work with receives a grant for $500.

In this case, North will be the recipient of the grant from Kohls, but the grant will be awarded in the amount of $1,500. That’s $1,000 more than what is usually given.

The A-Team helped the students plant tomatoes and peppers to place in the school’s greenhouse. The plants will be later sold to raise funds for the school.

The team also helped the students with planting Marigold flowers. The flowers will be taken home by the students and given to their mothers for Mother’s Day.
