Happy birthday, Albert Einstein.

Jean Wargo’s sixth, seventh and eighth-grade math students at Holy Family School celebrated “Pi Day” March 14 (3.14) in honor of Einstein’s birthday.

Her students worked on challenging word problems pertaining to the area and circumference of circles, while eating slices of “pie.”

“The students look forward to this; they start asking about it at the beginning of the school year,” Wargo said.

Wargo’s hope is for students to be excited about math and learning.

“Pi Day” is a national holiday that is promoted on several different math Web sites.

“It’s a national event, but what we do here may be a little different than what other schools do,” Wargo said.

Holy Family has been celebrating Einstein’s birthday for four years.

The students sign up for the event and bring in their favorite pies to eat while working on the “challenging” math problems provided by Wargo.
