The spirit of the infamous Gen. George Custer was made an appearance at the Boardman library April 12.

Friends of the Boardman Library were enlightened on the life and legacy of Gen. Custer by guest speaker Clifford Powell, of Canfield. Powell shared Custer’s experiences as a young boy through his death with the Boardman group.

Powell, a native of Youngstown, is retired and enjoys researching history whenever he can.

“I enjoy history all the way up to the present day,” he said.

Powell presented the group with a portrait that he donated to the library. It features all 44 American presidents dressed in the formal attire of their time.

Forty-five attendees were present for the event, which was followed by a business meeting.

The Friends of Boardman Library meets every second Monday of the month.

Anyone interested in joining are encouraged to attend a meeting.
