Defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova cruised past Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of the Porsche Grand Prix. The third-seeded Kuznetsova won the French Open last year for her second Grand Slam title. She’s competing in Stuttgart as a warm-up to the event. Srebotnik is back after missing eight months last season with various injuries. Once No. 20, she has been eliminated in the first round of all five of her tournaments this year.

FEZ, Morocco

Defending champion Anabel Medina Garrigues and top-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro have advanced to the second round of the Grand Prix SAR tennis tournament. Third-seeded Medina Garrigues needed only 45 minutes to defeat 18-year-old Lina Bennani of Morocco 6-0, 6-0. Suarez Navarro had a tougher time in a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 win over Anna Floris of Italy. Second-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland beat Greta Arn of Hungary 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
