Merchants group to sponsor weekend ‘Airing of the Quilts’

Staff report

COLUMBIANA

Main Street will be the site of the Retail Merchants Association’s “Airing of the Quilts” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

As part of the association’s annual “Springtime in Columbiana” event, dozens of quilts will be displayed outside the shops and on the porches of the city’s historic century homes in a nod to the old-time Amish ritual of taking quilts outside to air out after usage over the long winter months.

The event also will include a quilting demonstration by local expert Meta Culler on the square. Culler, a Salem resident, is a member of the United Quilt Guild.

Horse and carriage rides, boxed lunches by the local herb guild and a spring flower sale also will be featured, as well as open houses, sidewalk sales and special promotions by the city’s downtown and various plaza merchants.
