New Castle theater to offer ‘Brigadoon’

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The musical “Brigadoon” will open Friday at New Castle Playhouse, 212 E. Long Ave. The show, directed by Peggy Hanna, will run for nine performances over three weekends. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m. “Brigadoon” centers on a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years. For reservations, call the box office at (724) 654-3437. Tickets are $15 ($12 for seniors and students; $10 for children).

Symphonious Sunday series

SALEM

Kent State-Salem will present the final concert in its 2009-10 Symphonious Sunday series at 3 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of the Kent State City Center, 230 N. Lincoln Ave. The performance will feature Schubert’s “Mass in G” sung by the Kent Salem Community Choir. Admission is free. Other selections will include “Sure on This Shining Night,” “Hark I Hear the Harps Eternal,” “Hush, Somebody’s Callin’ My Name,” “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Rural Life Museum

MERCER, Pa.

The Rural Life Museum of the Mercer County Historical Society will open for the season Sunday. It will be open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. through October. The curator is Dale Boyd. The museum is behind Avalon Springs (the old Mercer County Home), one mile north of Mercer borough on Pa. Route 58. It celebrates Mercer County’s agricultural and rural life. Admission is free.
