Kindergarten open- enrollment applications for this fall are still being accepted by the Girard City School District through Friday. Applications can be picked up at the superintendent’s office at 704 E. Prospect St., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

I-680 restrictions

Beginning today, Interstate 680 under state Route 711 will have various lane restrictions in the northbound direction between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. for bridge work.

It’s part of a $4.3 million project to resurface about four miles of I-680 from state Route 11 to Steel Street. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late September.

Pothole patching

Beginning today and continuing through Thursday, U.S. Route 224 between Boardman Park Drive and South Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for pothole patching during daytime hours.

It’s part of a $5.2 million project to widen U.S. 224 through the addition of right-turn lanes from Boardman Park Drive to just west of South. The project also includes improvements to 15 traffic signals from Parkside Drive to Tiffany Boulevard. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this summer.

Car break-ins

Police are investigating a series of car break-ins in the township over the weekend. Eight vehicles were reported broken into Friday with cash and loose change taken. Those occurred on Southern Boulevard, Terrace Drive and Homestead Drive.

On Sunday, 15 vehicles were reported broken into on Hudson, Danbury and Prestwick drives and Hillman Way. Compact discs, cash, loose change, a DVD remote control and stereos were taken.

Street banners

YOUNGSTOWN

Street banners celebrating the growing and evolving connections between the city and Youngstown State University will be unveiled at 10 a.m. today at Wick Avenue and Federal Plaza.

The banners identify Youngstown as “A Great University Town” and YSU as “A Great University in Town.” They’ve been installed along the Market Street bridge, various intersections around downtown and on Wick Avenue.

Youngstown school board curriculum committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. today in Room 214 at 20 W. Wood St. Youngstown Board of Education Certificated Personnel Committee will meet at 5 p.m. today, and the Youngstown school board will have an open caucus at 5:30 p.m. and may adjourn to executive session. The board’s formal meeting follows at 6:30 p.m.
