Struthers wins eighth straight

STRUTHERS
Jackie Deem had two key hits and a pair of RBIs to put Struthers ahead of Dover in a three-run second inning as the Wildcats (15-3) won their eighth in a row, 4-3, in a softball game on Saturday.
Struthers scored its final run in the fifth when Dana Mathews singled, stole second and scored on Hanna Dubec’s sacrifice fly. Ashley Baron got the win (14-1).
Sarah Mills and Taylor Laroccia had two hits apiece for Dover, which had 10 hits to Struthers’ five. However, Dover committed five errors.
Canfield 1, Independence 0
AKRON
Winning pitcher Carlee Hart (9-4) and Sarah Vrabel combined to toss a three-hitter at Firestone Stadium. Vrabel and Brina Sturgeon doubled for the Cardinals (11-7).
Niles 3, LaBrae 0
NILES
Aubrey Hale tossed a five-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and one walk for Niles.
Sammy Melius had three hits, including a double, and Samii Ramer added two hits.
For LaBrae, Taylor Smith had three hits, including a double.

CHAGRIN FALLS
Tawny Rogers hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBIs while Haley McAllister hit a two-run blast for the Flashes (14-0) in the first game.
Taryn Hanna tripled while Mackenzie Kiser and Lindsay Swipas doubled. Swipas tossed a three-hit shutout. For Chagrin Falls, Leslie Hoye doubled.
In the second game, Swipas, Morgan White and Sierra Blackson doubled. Alison Sorber’s two hits drove in four runs.

NORTH LIMA
In the first game, Raiders freshman Carly DeRose tossed a six-inning two-hitter, striking out 13 batters and walking one.
DeRose had three hits, Madison Yanek homered, Laura Boroschak tripled and Emily Seman had two hits. Tab Stanton, Kristin Robinson and Gab Naples doubled. For Slippery Rock, Kalene Ireland doubled.
In the second game, Raiders (15-1) freshman Darrian Yanek struck out six batters in a six-inning two-hit shutout.
Madison Yanek tripled while Darrian Yanek hit two doubles and Julia Coburn one. For Slippery Rock (5-5), Ireland doubled.
Springfield 10-7, Jackson-Milton 4-9
NEW MIDDLETOWN
Erica Pitts’ three hits included two doubles with four RBIs for the Tigers (8-9). Also with three hits was Andria Lyons who scored twice.
Ashley Davis tripled while Nicole Siciliano and Kim Taylor doubled. Winning pitcher Erica Burkey (5-6) struck out 10 batters and walked two.
In the Bluejays’ win, Paije Kiraly and Caitlin Carney had two hits including doubles. Katie Santor and Caitlin Carney each had three hits for Jackson-Milton (7-7). In that game, Lyons had three hits while Davis, Kim Taylor and Jessica Evan each had two hits.
Ursuline 3, Fitch 0 Ursuline 3, Hubbard 0
LISBON
Senior Casey Lower had a no-hitter against Fitch and a two-hitter against Hubbard in the the Cures for Cancer Tournament at Lisbon.
Against Fitch, Lower had nine strikeouts and no walks. The game’s only three hits came in the third inning when senior Sarah Ingalls’ run-scoring double knocked in Malikka Caige, a senior, who led off the inning with a single.
Junior Kelli Kolenich also had a single.
Against Hubbard, Lower (12-3) had a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks for the Irish (12-4).
Senior Anna Donko had a double and single and Malikka Caige had two singles.
In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Caige singled, stole second and scored on Krista Byers’ RBI single. Ingalls reached on an error, then Casey Foley’s single scored Byers. Kelly Kolenich’s RBI double pushed across the third run.
Ashley Bone and Keri Durina had a single apiece for Hubbard.
Fitch 5, Lisbon 3
LISBON
A two-run bottom of the fourth was enough to sustain Fitch (7-6).
Stephanie Berdis had a triple, Haley Martinelli doubled and Alyssa Jones, Carly Ortz and Kacie Donahue all singled. Alyssa Jones and Donahue also had an RBI apiece.
Katie Snoddy had three singles for Lisbon.

Allison Covan scored on a bunt by Jessica D’Apolito in the top of the eighth inning for Poland (13-1).
Erin Gabriel (10-0) threw a two-hitter.

Nicole White and Meredith Testa doubled and Kaylie Benson singled twice for the Bulldogs (14-1).
Howland 10, Maplewood 3 Howland 4, Western Reserve 1
HOWLAND
Erika Nites had a triple, double and two singles and drove in three runs for Howland. Nites, a sophomore, also scored twice.
Sophomore Olivia Nicholas had a double and two singles for two RBIs, while Tori McCormick, also a sophomore, had two singles and two RBIs.
Stephanie Tucker doubled for Maplewood.
Against Western Reserve, junior Hayley Marchio had three strikeouts and walked one during a one-hitter for Howland (6-10).
Of Howland’s 10 hits, Melanie Cope had a double and single and scored twice and Tori McCormick and Olivia Nicholas both had a pair of singles.
Maggie Stubbs doubled for Western Reserve.

Heather Monoski’s three hits included a triple and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils (13-4).
Winning pitcher Sissy Stubbs’ four hits included a double and brought home three runs. Cassie Burchett’s three hits included a double and drove in three runs.
Southeast 4, Rootstown 0
RAVENNA
Kayla Williams had 14 strikeouts en route to a seven-inning two-hitter and Tricia Williams had a home run and two RBIs for Southeast (11-3).
Jordan Funk and McKenzie Iarussi had the lone hits for Rootstown (4-8).
Late Friday Canfield 3, Akron Hoban 1
AKRON
Melanie West, Carlee Hart and Sarah Vrabel doubled for Canfield and Rebecca Brown had an RBI single in the Rock ‘N Fire tournament.
Brunswick 2, Canfield 1
AKRON
Brina Sturgeon led off the seventh with a triple and Vrabel followed with an RBI double but it wasn’t enough for Canfield (10-6). Brunswick is 13-1.
Mentor Lake Catholic 2, Mooney 1
MASSILLON
Chrissy Porter’s RBI single gave Mooney (15-2) a lead that stood up till the fifth, when a two-out sinking liner to the right-center gap barely eluded a diving effort by Shayla DeCapita, allowing Lake Catholic (12-0) to stay unbeaten at the Tigertown Invitational.
Clausen (10-2) and Cadi Sheffler combined on a five-hitter. Porter had two hits.
