Hubbard baseball sweeps past Ursuline

HUBBARD

The Hubbard High baseball team defeated Ursuline 6-0 and 17-7 in a pair of baseball games Saturday.

Dan Helsel tossed a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts and four walks for Hubbard in the first game.

Tim Schiraldi had three hits, including two doubles, with two RBIs and a run. Ryan Strollo had two hits for Ursuline (7-12).

In the second game, Zach Merrell had four hits, including three doubles, and Andrew Hover added three hits, including two doubles for the Eagles (16-7).

Matt Shelton and Kory Hopkinson each added two hits.

Mooney 9-7, Stow 6-4

STRUTHERS

In the 9-6 win, one of Ryan Gallagher’s three hits was a triple and the Cardinals’ pitcher who went the distance also had three RBIs.

In the 7-4 win, Drew Delsignore went 3-for-3 for two RBIs for Mooney (12-3).

Howland 13, Beaver Local 12

HOWLAND

Dan Lageson had an RBI single to score Corey Hickman with the game-winner with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Matt Preston homered, doubled and singled and drove in five runs for the Tigers (10-6, 3-2 AAC Red), while Lageson added two hits and three RBIs.

Adam Shrodek pitched six innings of shutout relief, striking out one with a walk and three hits.

For Beaver Local, Jordan Fetty had three hits, including two doubles, and Nick Miller added a single and a double.

Liberty 7, Lakeview 3

CORTLAND

Sophomore Jared Wiesen went 62/3 innings before Nate Fader relieved in the seventh in the AAC White Tier game.

Wiesen had two strikeouts and walked two, while, at bat, he had a two-run double for Liberty (7-8, AAC White Tier).

Junior Nick Walley had a double and single and three RBIs and junior Ryan Halicki had two singles and knocked in a run for the Leopards.

West Branch 20-6, St. Thomas Aquinas 9-11

BELOIT

Jake Stahk homered twice and doubled to drive in seven runs for the Warriors (12-6) in the first game.

Brenden Wells tripled and doubled.

For the Knights (4-12), Andrew Nutial and Tryston Heath each had two hits. In the Knights’ win, Jim Dimarzio’s four hits included a double for the winners.

Wells doubled for the Warriors while Matt Unekefer and Scott Rinaldi each had two hits.

Lowellville 10, Brookfield 5

STRUTHERS

Brian Schiraldi and Tony Schialdone hit RBI triples for the Rockets (11-8).

Schiraldi also doubled. Schialdone and Mike Petronek also had two hits. Brookfield is 5-9.

Rootstown 6-7, Southeast 3-5

Rootstown

The Rovers (8-6) picked up two victories in a doubleheader against the Pirates (3-12).

Anthony Pennington had a combined three hits and an RBI in both games for the Pirates, and Justin Longston had three RBIs in the second game for the Rovers.
