Birding workshop

SANDY LAKE, pa.

McKeever Environmental Learning Center will host a Spring Birding Workshop for teachers, outdoor educators and homeowners May 7-8.

The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. May 7 with sessions on bird families, using field guides and binoculars. The May 8 session will include early-morning bird walks and outings at McKeever, Lake Wilhelm and Goddard State Park, areas designated as important bird areas by the National Audubon Society.

The workshop will be conducted by Toni Piccolin and includes lodging May 7, meals, instruction, materials and Act 48 credits. Cost is $65. To register, call (724) 376-1000 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Scrap-tire collections

WARREN

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has awarded $62,911 to Trumbull County cities, townships and villages to implement localized scrap-tire collection programs.

The program aims to assist all 56 political subdivisions in the district to implement convenient tire collections, such as one-day programs, curbside or cleanups of illegal roadside dumps. Visit www.start recycling.com for a list of collection dates and locations or call (330) 675-2673.

Spelling bee July 1

BAZETTA

The 24th annual spelling bee sponsored by the Trumbull Retired Teachers’ Association will be during the Trumbull County Fair on Everett-Hull Road at 1 p.m. July 1.

It is open to students in grades one through eight. Participants will receive free admission to the fair.

To register, call Denise Deltondo at (330) 530-4011 between May 1 and 20. Any student who does not register can participate but will not receive free fair admission.

Cemetery cleanup

Township trustees are asking that all decorations be removed from township cemeteries by May 1 so workers can prepare for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
